The Annual Dinner

Thank you to everyone who attended PADLS’ 89th Annual Dinner on Friday 8 March at the Lakeside Bar & Kitchen, Ferry Meadows.

There were 113 attendees from a mixture of local firms including:

•  Belinda Smith & Co

•  Buckles Solicitors LLP

•  Fenners Chambers

•  Greenwoods GRM LLP

•  Hegarty LLP

•  Hunt & Coombs

•  Regency Chambers

•  Serjeant & Son

•  Sloan Plumb Wood

•  Taylor Rose Law

•  The 36 Group

We extend our thanks to our Distinguished Guests who attended the evening, such as members of the judiciary and presidents from neighbouring law societies, among others.

We would also like to thank our sponsors: Errington Legal, Geodesys, MBL Seminars, the Peterborough Chartered Insurance Institute and Fenners Chambers.

The evening began with a short drinks reception where guests enjoyed music by string quartet group, Intermezzo. We were then seated and Belinda Smith (PADLS’ President) gave her address. Belinda warmly welcomed our guests and thanked a number of individuals and organisations for their continued support to help make the event a success.

Following a great meal, Belinda Smith introduced Darranda Rowswell from the Literacy Trust. Darranda spoke about the work of the charity and encouraged guests to get involved. Belinda then invited our guest speaker, Hannah Markham QC, a family law barrister based at The 36 Group, London to make her speech. Hannah is from Peterborough and went to school here. She moved to London for university and was appointed QC in 2016. Her address was particularly apt as the Dinner was held on International Women’s Day.

Belinda also made presentations to newly qualified solicitors Umrah Mirza (Taylor Rose), Jennifer Echemendia (Serjeant & Son) and Joseph Stoehr (Hunt & Coombs).

Finally, our charity raffle took place which has raised an amazing £700 for the Literacy Trust. Congratulations to everyone who won one of our raffle prizes.

As many of you will know this was the first Annual Dinner we have organised and if you have any feedback or comments about the evening, we would like to hear from you. We are keen to make next year’s event a memorable one as it will be the 90th Annual Dinner of the Peterborough & District Law Society.

Thank you so much to everyone for their support and attendance at the Dinner and we look forward to seeing you all at future events.
